A NICKPHOTO SHORT: CLEVELAND TO CHICAGO

It's no secret that I've been hugely influenced by Jack Kerouac. I read "On The Road" when I was in 10th grade and have been devouring his books ever since. When I was in high school, before I began pursuing photography with passion, I wanted to be a writer. I still read a ton to this day, and find that books, the story telling, the lives, influence me sometimes more than photographs.

I've been working really hard on my sort of personal side project. Well, I guess it's not really a side project, but I view and think about it differently than I do my more "commercial" feeling work. I can't wait to share a ton of work I've been making for it in the new year. Anyways, it's common thread, without delving too far into it, is basically travel/story telling. So, I was experimenting a couple of months ago and made this video featured above.

My homie @tony_miceli recorded and edited the audio for the clip.. thanks dude!

Stay tuned for more of this personal type work, and check out the photos below for some behind the scenes type content..

Yours truly.

For easy access to fire the shutter, I used an a-clamp to ensure my cable release would remain in the same positon, that way I wouldn't have to take my eyes off the road looking around for where it went.

I configured my tripod legs so the camera would be level as possible. I then took my backseat seat belts and wrapped the tripod, which worked surprisingly well, keeping everything sturdy and level.

Detail of the seat belt set up.

For the images, I set my milage to 000.00 when I left my driveway. I then kept an eye on it here and there for every time it would go up 1 mile. As soon as I saw the 001.00 I would fire the shutter. Once on the highway, It was pretty easy to get the timing down as speed wasn't really varying. So my shutter would fire at 001.00, 002.00, 003.00, etc. By the time I parked on my street in Chicago, the meter was somewhere around 350 or something like that.

Be sure to drop me a line with questions, thoughts, ideas..
